Every year at the end of October, beginning of November, the bamboo harvest begins in the surrounding area of naked Retreats. This is a time to come out and see the locals in their time honored tradition of cutting, hauling, and transporting their local product. Our retreat is located adjacent to heart of the Chinese bamboo production capital, Anji. During this time you will see the roads crowded with cut bamboo getting ready to be taken to various work shops, factories, and destinations though out China. You will see in our village the bamboo farmers hauling their crop down the paths, through the forest, and along the road, a feat which takes much skill, strength, and stamina. Once taken away this bamboo has a multitude of uses, our tea canisters, our towel racks(ladders), our towels in our houses, some will be transported for use as scaffolding and some carved in to arts and crafts, while others will processed for mats, curtains and floors, to name a few. This is a great time to come out and not only learn about bamboo and its uses but to experience this process in action and see a continued way of life that has spanned centuries.
