A rough and ready race that began in 2008 with a challenge between friends has become a major sporting fixture. Racers come from near and far to compete for the Potjie trophy, a traditional South African cooking pot (made in China).

A triathlon with a twist, the Potjie begins in the naked Home Village reservoir, descends and circuits Moganshan by bicycle, on and off road, with a few steps thrown in, then ends at the new naked Stables Private Reserve. The course is tough but spectacular. Family support is always welcome, and sometimes vital.

We cook up a rich mountain stew in a couple of Potjies on open fires while the race is underway. With a cold beer or three, it makes an excellent post race meal!
  • Location: Moganshan. Race starts at the reservoir below naked Home Village and ends at naked Stables Private Reserve
  • Start Time: 8:00am
  • Date: September 3rd, 2011
  • Distance: Swim 1km, cycle 40km, run 10km
  • Duration: Three to four hours
  • Transportation: Round trip bus from Shanghai to naked Home Village
  • Depart Friday 6pm and return Sunday 12:00pm
  • Please let us know if you will need your bike transported.
  • Bikes: The course is on and off-road, so a mountain bike is required. You can bring your own or rent one from us.

RACE ENTRY FEE:

Potjie bbq (after race):

  • 200 RMB/person
  • A traditional South African stew made of chunks of meat, potatoes and vegetables, all thrown into a Potjie (cauldron) and slowly cooked over an open fire while contestants complete the race. Meal also includes traditional BBQ items and a buffet. Three drinks (beer and soda) included in price.

Potjie weekend packages:

  • Packages available at 1690 RMB/ person
  • Plus a 15% service charge
  • Includes:
  • 2 nights accommodation at naked Home Village (based on double occupancy, room allocation on first come first serve policy)
  • 2 x Western style breakfast (includes eggs and bacon, freshly baked bread, tomatoes and mushrooms, fresh fruit, cereal, tea and coffee)
  • 1 x pasta dinner (Friday night)
  • 1 x Potjie BBQ (Saturday night)
  • 1 Roundtrip transportation from Shanghai
  • Please note this package price does not include  the Race Entry Fee.

General terms and conditions for package:
1. Based on double occupancy (2pax per room). 
2. Package is valid for the weekend of September 1st through 3rd only.
3. Items in the package cannot be exchanged or refunded for monetary value.
4. If package items are not consumed or used during your stay, they shall not be refunded.
