With naked Home Village, naked Retreats established our reputation for designing, building and operating an accessible rural escape from the city. We learned how to create an environmentally friendly, sustainable resort in the Chinese countryside and how to work with the local community and government. We also discovered a desperate need, in the cities near our resort and further afield, for high quality, well-managed, beautifully located rural getaways in China.

Some ten kilometers down the valley from naked Home Village, we discovered the site that has become naked Stables Private Reserve. As Grant Horsfield, founder of naked Retreats says, when he first saw it he had to be very careful to hide his excitement. It was so perfect for what he had in mind.

That plan was for a brand new resort, built from the ground up yet with minimal impact on the natural environment – a well-preserved forest – that would be a showcase for sustainability in its construction and operation, be superbly designed, and could offer guests luxurious accommodation, a wealth of activity options, fine dining and entertainment. All within a nature reserve.
